Your Campaign Announcement
Unity over division. Love over hate. ❤
A community mobilization response plan to combat hate group demonstrations in your town.
Facts: Charlottesville woke us all up. The violence demonstrated shook us all to the core. These guys are out there, dangerous and fearless. They are organized and brazen. And they are coming to towns all over the country.
This weekend, they are arriving in [Laguna Beach / Your Town.]
Plan: Instead of confronting them at their rally, we’ve come together, activists and community leaders, and created our own rally the day before to bring together like-minded people who must demonstrate that America is better than this. In addition, we need a symbol to squash their evil ones. We are the majority. We are more powerful. We just need to come together and show our unity. #UnityRibbons are our symbol. Since the yellow ribbon welcomed soldiers home, ribbons have been a symbol of welcome. All are welcome.
- Organize A Unity Over Division, Love Over Hate Rally. Reach out to organizations in and around your community who will want to get involved.
- Unity Ribbons throughout your town. We want to tie ribbons on trees, lampposts, signposts, doors - you name it – throughout your town with most concentrated near where the hate group protest will be the next day. The ribbons can be any size and should be every color showing our diversity, and any group can bring a color that signifies their organization. (Please note permission may be required, so be sure to check.)
- Spread the love through social media. Use the hashtags: #unity, #unityribbons #loveoverhate Take photos. Have extra ribbons available to hand out to others. More than one ribbon, a rainbow of ribbons, per tree would be beautiful.
- Don’t attend the hate group rally. That’s what they want. The local law enforcement strongly urges us to stay away from these hate group gatherings. So don’t go. Instead, imagine them - ignored, surrounded by a sea of #unityribbons As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “The time is always right to do what is right.”
With these simple, powerful steps, you will let everyone know hate is not welcome here.

write an op ed
Tell your story. Some of the points in the above op ed may be too political for you. Tell your story and explain why Unity Ribbons are a symbol of welcome.
don't forget local businesses
We canvassed our local businesses to make sure they knew what was coming and to hand out ribbons and signs of welcome and unity. Work with your local chamber of commerce if possible.
